How to make a free eBook online
Have you thought about how to make a free eBook for your business? Regardless of the content, you want to write, the topics considered on your website/blog or new ideas that arise in your mind, a world of possibilities is possible.
There are tools for creating paid eBooks, but there are also good free versions, in this article you will be taught how to make a free eBook with Canvas free version.
The Canva is a great tool and offers many free ready-made templates. Check it out below.
1. Find content for your own eBook
Content can be created completely from an idea, but you can also reuse existing content very well in an eBook.
Maybe you have a regular blog category where you give tips, maybe you have a lot of recipes, or have you always wanted to expand on the topics you post on?
An eBook offers the opportunity to do this and practically collect existing content in one place, or expand that content with more information and bring it into a little clearer form.
2. How to make a free eBook with Canva.com
If you still do not know Canva.com, now is the time to finally meet you. Among other things, Canva.com also offers ready-made templates for magazines, posters or infographics that you can use out-of-the-box or convert to your own taste.
There is also a separate category for eBooks in which you can find various templates.
Choose the model
To learn how to make a professional-looking free eBook, go to Canva.com and create a profile quickly and easily. Or log in with your email address or directly with your Facebook profile.
Canvas is an amazing tool! It already brings with it the montage of various formats in various categories, the ones that are most common to use.
Here you can choose between different models:
- Multiple social media posts and profile graphics;
- Documents such as letters, presentations, résumés, etc.;
- infographics, eBook covers and CD booklets;
- posters, leaflets, brochures;
- postcards, invitations and announcements;
- Various ads and banners.
If you want to create your own design, in other dimensions, enter these custom measurements in the upper right corner and Canva will create the design.
To create your eBook go to your homepage and select Create project > More > Blogs and eBooks > select the eBook template.
Now a new file opens, in which you can choose from several layouts for eBooks. Some models are available completely free of charge. But others, you need to pay for some resources to be released.
You choose the template of your choice according to the subject chosen for your eBook and adapt to your wishes and needs.
Or (and I recommend that, if you have some practice), create your own layout that matches your corporate design!
You’ll find various shapes like photos, illustrations, symbols and more in “Elements”. A fair amount of these forms are free.
Under “Uploads” you can upload your own photos. Make sure you own the image rights! In free image databases like freepik, Unsplash or Pixabay, you will find numerous beautiful images.
Adjust fonts and colors
After selecting a label, you can change the font and color in the bar above.
Your corporate design font may not be available.
So you have two options: either you get the Pro (paid) version because you can upload your font. Or look for a font that is closest to what you want to put in your ebook.
It is important that you use the same fonts and colors for future projects to achieve the recognition value you want with your readers.
Consider the structure
Before starting to produce your ebook, think about the structure, that is, ask yourself: What do I need to do to keep the book clear and easy to read?
For example, there would be a title page, an index, a page on which you would like to present the content of the book and/or yourself, pages that announce a new chapter, content pages, etc.
Obviously, all the pages you’ve considered in the structure of your book also need their own layout.
So that you don’t have to keep designing the pages every time, it’s particularly useful to define a layout for each of the different pages right from the start.
You can copy this page with the proper layout and all you have to do is paste the content.
For example, you have several pages in your book where the next chapter is announced. On this page, the photo should find its place in the top third, below the chapter header, in the middle and at the bottom, your blog’s URL.
So that you don’t have to constantly recreate the layout on each of these chapter pages, create it once and copy this designed page as many times as you need into the eBook.
On the copied pages, you now paste the intended content, which can be photos, graphics, text(s), etc. Ready!
3. Publish the eBook
Is your eBook finally ready and do you want to publish it now? Download as PDF on your PC.
As this is a book that will only be available digitally and not as a printed version, the standard PDF version is sufficient here.
To make the eBook available to your readers, you must upload it and share the link. If you have a hosted blog, simply upload the PDF to the media library as a file and then use the file’s URL.
If you don’t have a hosted blog and are, for example, on Blogger, you can upload your PDF file to Dropbox and share it with the link provided there.
